Nongnooch Garden Pattaya Partners with China's Science and Technology Park to Develop New Bougainvillea Varieties Globally
Today, at 9:00 AM, in the Bougainvillea Meeting Room, Mr. Kampon Tansacha, President of Nongnooch Garden Pattaya, together with representatives from Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Investment Holding Co., Ltd., People's Republic of China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining a framework for communication and cooperation. The agreement aims to create, collect, research, and develop new varieties of bougainvillea to be introduced worldwide.
The objectives of the collaboration include data exchange, genetic sharing, development of breeding techniques, creation of new varieties, and the establishment of a shared platform for the storage of bougainvillea varieties. Additionally, the partnership aims to edit and publish the "World Bougainvillea Species List" by 2027. This collaboration will make the two institutions the largest holders of bougainvillea varieties and newly developed species in the world. The partnership is set for a three-year period, starting May 1, 2025, and ending April 30, 2028.
Hainan Sanya Bougainvillea Science and Technology Park is the world's largest science park and exhibition site for bougainvillea, as well as China's largest breeding facility for the plant. Nongnooch Garden Pattaya is renowned as one of the ten most beautiful gardens in the world and already holds the record for the largest number of bougainvillea varieties globally. Both institutions are recognized as leading organizations with expert personnel specializing in the study of bougainvillea worldwide.
Following the signing ceremony, the delegation proceeded to plant a giant bougainvillea tree in the Arboretum at the foothills of Khao Ban Dai Krit within Nongnooch Garden Pattaya.
