Another Baby Elephant! The 6th One This Year Welcomed at Nongnooch Garden Pattaya

Nongnooch Garden Pattaya held a ceremony to welcome a new baby elephant at the 200 Rai Shrine in Nongnooch Garden, Chonburi. The ceremony took place at 9:00 AM and was led by Phra Khru Kasemkittisophon, a monk from Wat Samakkibunpot. This is a traditional ceremony at Nongnooch Garden to welcome newborn elephants.

Mr. Kampon Tansatcha, the President of Nongnooch Garden Pattaya, expressed his happiness about having another elephant. This makes it the 6th baby elephant born this year. Currently, there are 79 elephants in the garden. The staff closely takes care of them. The elephant camp at Nongnooch Garden Pattaya is the first in Thailand to receive a certificate of good practice from the Department of Livestock Development and the National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards.

The welcoming ceremony included 30 dancers and 38 elephants. During the ceremony, garlands were placed, and powder was applied to the foreheads of the mother and baby elephant for good luck. The new baby elephant was named "Plai Khanun." The father’s name is Plai Muk, and the mother’s name is Pang Chomphu. The baby elephant was born on August 9, 2024, at 12:15 AM. This is the first baby for the mother, and both mother and baby are healthy and well taken care of by their mahout.
