Celebrating a Global Milestone in Palm Conservation: Nongnooch Botanical Garden Hosts the International Palm Society Meeting 1998

In September 1998, from the 11th to the 18th, Nongnooch Botanical Garden had the honor of hosting an international seminar organized by the International Palm Society. It was a privilege for Nongnooch to be chosen as the venue for this prestigious event, as the garden is renowned worldwide for its vast collection of palms—over 20,000 species, including more than 2,000 varieties from around the globe. This remarkable biodiversity earned Nongnooch a distinguished reputation as one of the world’s most comprehensive and diverse palm conservation centers.

Mr. Kampon Tanasatcha, the director of Nongnooch Botanical Garden, was selected as a board member of the society. The event welcomed more than 250 members from over 34 countries, creating an inspiring environment for preserving plant species and promoting natural conservation on a global scale.

This gathering provided participants with an opportunity to witness Nongnooch's unique collection of palms and encouraged the expansion of conservation networks worldwide. It aimed to inspire future generations and instill an appreciation for the beauty and diversity of palm species, all nestled in the heart of Nongnooch Botanical Garden.
